Auburn quarterback Cam Newton was the first pick of the 2011 NFL draft, going to the Carolina Panthers. Denver used the second pick on Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller and Buffalo chose Alabama DT Marcell Dareus third.
Auburn star Cam Newton scored the proverbial hat trick at the 2010 NCAA College Football Awards on Thursday night, walking away with the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top quarterback, the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Award as the best all-around player in the country. His next stop will be New York, where he’s the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday.
The 6-foot-6, 250-pound quarterback led top-ranked, undefeated Auburn to the Southeastern Conference championship and a spot in the Bowl Championship Series national title game against No. 2 Oregon on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz.
