Miami Heat guard LeBron James accepted the highly coveted NBA MVP award for the third time in four seasons on Saturday, making him the eighth player in league history to win that many. Unlike James, the others — Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Moses Malone — all have won NBA titles. James numbers this season — 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game on 53 percent shooting.

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton tied a major league record today by slamming 4 home runs in a single game, in a 10-3 route of the Baltimore Orioles this week. Hamilton hit home runs in the first, third, seventh, and eighth innings, finishing the night a perfect 5 for 5, and setting a new single game American League record of 18 total bases.

I’ll Have Another stunned the crowds at Churchill Downs, finishing first at the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. At 15/1 odds, I’ll Have Another produced a strong finish, catching the front-running Bodemeister in the closing stages and winning by one and a half lengths. He is the first horse to have won the Kentucky Derby from post position 19. It was the Derby debut for his 25-year-old jockey Mario Gutierrez.
